Update...

People keep emailing me so I think I need to post an update!

First, let me tell you that the past few days have been very busy for me. It's the end of year here and I've had to terminate many different projects for uni. This is the reason why I haven't been able to keep up with the delays I announced. This project is not dead, we're not pulling "another gnirfleo" and I'm sure you know it.

Another problem I wanted to raise. Lately, I've been working on the download speeds. On LAN (at home only, when data doesn't travel on the internet), the download speeds from PC to DS are correct, fast enough for the application. However, using WAN (internet) the speeds are quite terrible. I get something like  8 kilobytes/s. I've written several different protocols and algorithms, with acknowledgements or not (acknowledging every data block, acknowledging 1 data block only, etc...) and I still get the same crappy speed. I've contacted the author of DSFTP, but he didn't reply to my email.
So, I'm facing a choice here: I'm either going to wait until I solve the speed issues, or release a v0.2 that will only be efficient for local usage.

If you have any lead on how to solve the speed issues, please post a comment.
Thanks!

PS: I apologize for the delays, and for not being able to keep up with the delays I originally announced. I hope to make that up with an interesting v0.2 release.

Thank you for the update, do you know when you will be able to release it?
Verocity :
Awesome Costello, i think you should release it so that the stress is off..then work on the speeds..

Anyway though great job!
thediscopope :
i agree with verocity, plus it will shut up all those people who keep calling this another gnirfleo
Red110 :
I also agree with Verocity and thediscopope. You could release the version that works fine over LAN so that people will stop pressuring you for a release.
Dan :

Thank you for the update costello, I think will be great if you release the actual build of your homebrew browser (DS HOBRO) because we can test and can help you by reporting all the bugs that we can found :).

chuji3 :
Definitely recommend releasing the v0.2 with local usage for now.  The whiners can stick to waiting for vaporw...I mean, Gnirfleo.

Thanks for the update also :)
Aa :
Please release DS Hobro 0.2 wirh local usage.
thediscopope :
hey, only im allowed to agree with verocity. but yes, i agree with everyone (no one else here can do that) that u should realease the local version.
Daltonlaffs :
I'm with all of them -- I'd much rather have a working browser that's kinda slow now, instead of waiting another month for a faster one... after all, you can always make the faster one later, right? :)
tomleboubou site:

Thanks for the update, man. ^_^ Just take your time!

I don't know if it can help you (/me bah noob :P) but maybe you can try to use libDSFTP....?

Costello :
Hi, seems like I'll release the local version yeah. I'm working on it today.

tomleboubou: if I use libDSFTP it means I need to transfer files via FTP... but I need to do more than just file transfer! there are some custom commands that I need to send...
as :
A lot of tanks for release this version, Costello.
thediscopope :

Are you gonna release it today?!?!?! But as long as you release it, I'm jiggy with that.

mitch :
please release it your gonna give me an anxiety attack
as :
You say Costello:
Hi, seems like I'll release the local version yeah. I'm working on it today.

Please release it!
mitch707 :
please release it i leaving soon and wanted to try it from a distance cause im going to oregon please release it in less than an hour !!!
es :
Please Costello!!!
s :
Yes and yes, Costello is releasing a Gnirfleo Browser
chuji3 :
Gnirfleo IS fake.  This isn't.  Download the alpha version and understand how it works before jumping to conclusions.
thediscopope :
I know this won't help any, but stop calling this another gnirfleo.  If you don't think this is real, no one here carees.  Go some where else and tell people who don't care about your thoughts.  I am waiting for costello to release the browser, and so is everyone else here.  You don't deserve it.  Just remember what George W. Bush once said: "I like fish."
thediscopope :
I can't wait to see how many people will flame me for saying that. Count for me guys.
Gnirfleo :
The older version isn't a Gnirfleo but the new version is a Ginirfleo Browser.
pissed :

Yep. This is another Gnirfleo. Just alittle more elaborated. He throws together a quick vnc source edit so we think he acctualy plans to continue working on the project, and again, we fall for it because a good web browser is the most wanted homebrew for ds.

The NDS scene loses again.

thediscopope :
Again with the unneccesary comments.  GO AWAY.  Some of us here (including me) actually trust costello and mollusk, obviously you don't.  You aren't making any converts to the " all homebrew applications that sound awsome are not going to happen because of one thing in the past."  We won't know if it's fake until we hear from him.  We paid at least $50 to use free programs that are FREE.  That means that the coder is taking his/her own time and money to make this, when they could be making money.  But you asses have to spoil everything for the believers with your something-ness attitude.  Go ahead and chase all the developers away so there won't be a NDS homebrew scene anymore.  And costello, don't let this be a fake or I'll look like an idiot.
thediscopope :

(meant to include this in the previous post)

Look at QuakeDS, it took him a long time to get around system limitations, but he still made it work, and it is one of the best homebrew applications for NDS yet.  When (if, hopefully when) costello releases v.2, I'm sure it will be the best homebrew browser for NDS and the quickest.  you want to talk about how much the homebrew scene sucks, you're not welcome here.  Go to some other site and furiously type about how gay I am even though you've never met me in person.  Better yet, go complain why there isn't WoW on NDS because you think you are better than the people who put time and effort into their work just to be critisized by people who don't think making a workable browser on a system with 4 MEGABYTES of RAM is harder than expected.  There, I'm done now, but I gotta say it was fun typing tonight.  Keep it up, I like to prove why idiots like you are keeping the hb scene from getting to where it could be.

Excession :
thediscopope: I am with you 100% on this!

People need to realise that most homebrew developers have lives, jobs and hobbies. They are in NO WAY obliged to make a release.
Furthermore, they owe the userbase NOTHING, because the userbase is not paying them anything and is largely extremely selfish.

Seriously, if 'pissed' had made his comments about an opensource project, rather than a little homebrew app, he'd have been absolutely crucified by now.
chuji3 :
LMAO at these random fools crying over being fooled by Gnirfleo.  It's only been 3 weeks since the first release and their impatient asses are already crying "fake".

Either buy a PSP or get the Opera browser.  Can't afford either?  Tough luck then.  You deserve to get screwed.
:( :
Thanks for making illusions, Costello
thediscopope :
God, will you people shut up and just wait for a release like the rest of us.  As I said before, NO ONE HERE CARES WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY!!!! God, if you still aren't convinced that your opinion doesn't care, then allow me or some one else to pound the nail of smartness into the hollow void that is what you call your brain.  Hopefully that will increase your intelligence from where it is now to the level of ours.  Oh, and if you wnat me to shut up, then stop posting here about how little faith you have in developers that as stated a thousand times already, have separate lives and jobs they could be carrying out as they are putting in all this effort to make something for the people who don't beleive in magic.  Now, before I get too much adrenaline in my system from typing, I'll shut up (for now, of course.)
Gnirfleo :
Costello, please demonstrates what DSHobro isn't a fake.
